Finnish Tax Card 2022

Last year, the income of more than 750 000 people exceeded the income limit indicated in their tax card. This means that their income was taxed at the end of the year with an additional tax rate that is clearly higher than the basic rate.

Now is the best moment to make changes in your tax card (verokortti). The tax administration estimates the income limit of the tax card based on the person's previous income. If your work situation or income has changed, you will probably need to update your tax card income limit and order a new tax card with up-to-date income information.

The Finish Tax Administration (Verohallinto) recommends to check your new tax card to avoid untoward surprises at Christmas time next year.

The tax card indicates an income ceiling for 11 months (from February to December), not for the whole calendar year. The tax card shows an estimate of your income for the year, and the tax rate is based on this amount. To make sure that your tax card has the right income limit, you might review it now. If the tax administration's estimate of this year's income seems to be wrong, you should make a new tax card. The 2022 tax card can be found in MyTax (OmaVero).

Thus, in January 2022, you still continue using your 2021 tax card. The tax rate is the same as in 2021, but the card's income limit is set back to zero. The new card will come into force on 1 February 2022.

The paper tax cards will arrive in January 2022 by post.
