January is the most popular month to make changes in the tax card (verokortti) and request a new one. However, your existing 2020 tax card will continue to be valid in January 2021, so there is no rush. The new card will come into force on 1 February 2021. You can make a tax card at the Tax Administration's e-service MyTax (OmaVero)
Tax cards of all customers can already be found in MyTax system (OmaVero). More than 4.3 million customers, in turn, will receive a tax card 2021 also by post in January 2021 at the latest.
The percentage rate for your 2021 tax card is based on one of the following information:
- income and deductions recorded in your tax assessment for 2019, or
- income and deductions mentioned in your revised tax card for 2020, if you requested it.
You have to request a new tax card in case of income changes considerably due to, for instance: changing a job, unemployment, studies, retirement, maternity leave etc.
To request a revised tax card, you will need to:
- Estimate total income for the year.
- Calculate the income and taxes accrued from the beginning of the year.
- Add information on any possible deductions.
