In Finland tax cards 2020 will come into force on 1.2.2020.

The tax card can be changed in anytime during the year if needed.

The tax administration (Verohallinto) will send a new tax card for the year 2020 approximately to 4.8 million Finnish people. All tax cards for 2020 are available now at MyTax (OmaVero).

It is recommended to check your tax card's annual income limit. Тhe tax rate is already calculated for the majority of people. However, if your income limit is too low or your income has changed significantly, you can easily apply for a new tax card in MyTax (OmaVero). You can change your tax card throughout the year. Use the Tax percentage calculator to calculate whether you need to change your tax rate.

For the salary payable in January 2020 will, as a rule, be used the tax card 2019. However, the income threshold will be reset and the January earnings will not be included in the tax card 2019 income threshold. If the customer has done the changed tax card, which come into force from the beginning of 2020, it will be used in January.

If you had been taxed at a higher rate on salary in December, then in January the base rate for the tax card 2019 will be used again.

Some employers receive tax cards directly from the Tax Administration, but you should check this information and ask your employer. If you make any change to your tax card, always hand it to the payer by yourself.

As concerns the submitting your tax card to the pension payer, then you should provide your tax card only once when you retire or start receiving a new pension. The tax card is then automatically provided to the pension payer.
