According to Statistics Finland, a total of 154 783 passengers flew through Finnish airports in April 2021, which was 512 % more than a year earlier. The exceptionally high percentage increase in passenger numbers is due to Covid-19 restrictions, which led to the temporarily closure of air traffic a year ago.
In April 2021, the number of passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport increased by 433 % and the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports grew by 968 % compared to the same period previous year.
Despite the high growth rates, the total number of air traffic passengers at Finnish airports was still around 90 % lower in April 2021 than in April 2019.
