454 000 Finns have forgotten to pay the first installment of Real Estate Tax, which was due on 6 August 2021. In total, this year approximately EUR 85 million of a Real estate tax remained unpaid in August.
It is recommended to pay the tax without delay, as late-payment interest will begin accruing immediately on unpaid taxes. In 2021, the interest rate is 7%.
The original payment slip that came with the real estate tax decision should not be used if the tax is paid late. Up-to-date payment information with interest, account and reference numbers can be found in MyTax (Omavero). In case you use the original payment slip that came with the real estate tax decision, then you have to calculate the late-payment interest yourself.
For most property owners, the due dates for real estate tax are in August and October or in September and November. The tax is paid in two (2) instalments if the amount is €170 or more.
Paying with the e-invoice is the easiest way to pay Real estate tax. You can request an e-invoice in your e-bank at any time, but no later than three weeks before the invoice due date.
This year 2021, approximately 2.2 million property owners in Finland will pay property tax.
