According to the Employment and Economic Development Offices there were registered 251 700 people as unemployed job seekers at the end of January 2020 with a year-on-year increase of 200.
Unemployment in Finland
The key statistical data are the following:
- There was a decrease in number of unemployed job seekers by 6 000 compared to December 2019
- The number of long-term unemployed amounted to 63 400, which is at 2 500 less than in the previous year
- Among people over 50, the number of unemployed was 94 400, which is at 300 more than a year earlier
- The number of unemployed looking for work under the age of 25 was in amount of 30 800, which is at 1 200 less than in January 2019
The number of vacancies reported to the Employment and Economic Development Offices:
- the amount of new vacancies in January was 92 900, that is at 5 900 more than in January 2019
- the total number of vacancies in January 2020 amounted to 146 400, which is at 12 100 more than a year ago
At the end of January 2020, the number of people laid off throughout the country was 24 400; year-on-year growth amounted to 3300 people.
The level of employment and unemployment increased compared to the same period last year:
- The employment rate was 72,1%, which is 1,5 % higher than in January a year earlier.
- The unemployment rate was 7,2%, or 0,4 % higher than the previous year.
