Set Career Goals & Objectives | Job Search in Finland
It is important for every job seeker to define the career goals when starting the job search process. Establish your career goal or objective:” What do you want to do?”, “Where do you want to be?”.
- You have to prepare a clear and succinct description of your career goals. This description has to be phrased in two or three sentences and might be understandable and sufficiently accurate. It has to concisely describe your most relevant skills and professional goals.
- Your career goals have to be relevant to the company for which you're applying and to the position you’re applying to. Use the keywords from the job description and add them to your objective.
- You must be prepared to elaborate on how you plan to accomplish these goals.
- If employer will review resumes before cover letters, in such case your well-written career objective can capture an employer's interest.
- Note: vague descriptions are meaningless to employers.
- Focus on why you would benefit a company.
The career objective can be added to the top of your CV, just below your name and contact information. Actually, it is not obligatory to write an objective on your resume but it has a few advantages:
- a way to impress a potential employer and quickly capture his interest;
- helps you build a focused resume reflecting your career goals;
- can be useful during your job interview.
