The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland has published on 21 January 2020 the review in which were emphasized that always there are several factors influencing effective integration process into Finnish society. In accordance with this article, the integration involves multiple aspects of social life, among them employment opportunities of immigrants, as well as an active participation of the receiving society and the immigrants themselves in this process.
It is mentioned in the article that Finland attracts a lot of international students. These students could return thе investment back to the Finnish society after graduation, if they will stay in the country. However, unfortunately, the wage level and employment rate of highly educated immigrants who stayed in Finland has been considerably below those of Finns. In addition, the immigrants have received job interview invitation much more rarely compared to Finns even if their education and skills are the same. Thereby, labor market in Finland was defined as ethnically hierarchical.
At the end of 2018 there were 400 000 people in Finland with an immigrant background. Migration to Finland has a stable growth since the 1990s and expected to continue to increase. In order to guarantee the successful integration of immigrants to the Finnish society, in the country should be different kind of support of the immigrants and of course social structures have to support non-discrimination, i.e. the fully equal rights.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment’s Centre of Expertise in Immigrant Integration submits every 4 years a review of integration as part of the integration monitoring system. The review of the year 2019 were divided into the several themes: employment, education, wellbeing, participation and two-way integration.
